Kimora Lee Simmons: A New Chapter and a New Clothing Line

Kimora Lee Simmons has been through a whirlwind in the past few years. The designer left her position as president and creative director of Phat Fashion, got married and divorced, gave birth to son Kenzo, became president and creative director of JustFab, and married Goldman Sachs banker, Tim Leissner. Most recently, Simmons has announced that she is pregnant, due in April and launching her own collection, KLS Kimora Lee Simmons.

Simmons 30-look collection will be showcased in a Chelsea gallery today. The collection includes jacquard suiting, jersey dresses, tailored coats that are clean and feature subtle sexiness. The line starts at $500 for a top, up to $2,400 for a coat. “It’s not as flashy. It’s not loud,” Simmons told WWD of her new collection compared to her old. “I can do that. I sold out Radio City Music Hall [for Baby Phat fashion shows]. I projected things in Times Square. Now, everyone does that; I was the first one. So in that sense, this is a great departure.”

“It’s different for me.”

“It’s, like, grown up,” Simmons told WWD about the collection and the campaign images that she modeled for herself.

With plans to keep the brand small, Simmons is opening her own retail store in Beverly Hills instead of turning the collection over to wholesale. The store will be open this spring and we could not be more excited!
