Not all necklaces work with all necklines. Necklines include Crew/polo, round, asymmetric, plunging, V-neck, sweetheart and scooped neck. Necklaces for Asymmetric Round and Scoop Necklines: A necklace that mirrors the shape of the Asymmetric or V-neck creates a refined appearance. You can go with chunky beads or small delicate necklaces. Best are those that fit inside the open neckline. A choker or princess necklace will work well.
Necklaces for Plunging and V-neck Necklines: A long delicate necklace enhances the look of the plunge and emphasize the cleavage and flesh, while elongating the appearance of the neck. If you want to avoid this, you can also wear a chunky necklace that takes the focus away from the cleavage.
Necklaces for Sweatheart Necklines: Contrast is the word for this type of neckline. Even out the appearance of the wide neckline. A small chunky or flat necklace will do wonders as they mimic the neckline. Balance the wide effect of the neckline and distract the eye toward your neck and face.
Necklaces for Scoop and Round Necklines: These types of necklines are well suited, and dare I say, very versatile for wearing small, choker, princess or chunky necklaces. These types of necklaces should be on the round side, instead of long elongated as those used for plunging or V-necks.
Now, as with anything else when creating an outfit, we need to make sure that the chosen necklace goes well with the top. If the top is plain, a delicate necklace goes well for a sophisticated look. Or, we can chose a necklace in a color that will contrast the plain top. On the other hand, if the top is heavy, dark or has many colors a bright, plain beaded or pear necklace is a nice fit. For v-Necks or plunging necklines we can also layer a long and a shorter necklace for an added effect.
Necklaces for Crew, Polo and Collared Shirt Necklines: Chokers and small delicate necklaces tucked under the collar or inside the shirt are a great way to accentuate the neck. Another option is long necklaces outside the shirt. Don’t overdue it with chunky or large beads that can overwhelm the necklines with these types of outfits.
