The cat eye was one of my favorite makeup looks for the longest time but I was always very intimidated by using a liquid eyeliner and I thought it was a little much for wearing to class, work, etc. However, I started playing around with my makeup one day and realized that mastering the cat eye was as easy as 1, 2, 3! Here are my steps to achieving the every day cat eye!
1. Start with a nude base.
Whether you like a matte look or a little shimmer, always start with an eye shadow as close to your natural skin color as possible. The cat eye is all about a clean-cut look and the eye liner is the main attraction. Adding too much color to the lid distracts from the bold liner. My absolute favorite shade is Champagne Quartz by Bobbi Brown.
2. Draw a nice, sharp line with a black liquid liner.
At night, it’s okay to go a little crazy with the wings but during the day you want to keep it simple. Use your favorite black liquid liner to create a small wing at the outer corner of your eye. Helpful hint- it’s easier to draw your wings on rather than flicking them; flicking is a very precise talent achieved over time and can become very uneven VERY quickly. The Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner by Stila has become my go-to liquid liner because it’s in the shape of a small felt pen so it’s easy to control and it stays all day without flaking!
3. Long lashes.
Lastly, apply a great mascara on the top and bottom of the eye to elongate your eyelashes. Make sure your mascara does not clump. I repeat- NO. CLUMPING. Clumpy mascara is the downfall of every makeup look but especially the cat eye. Long, sleek lashes are key to the sleek cat eye look. I use the They’re Real! Mascara by Benefit no matter what look I’m going for because it creates long and thick lashes without clumping and it’s waterproof.. it’s the perfect mascara for my cat eye!
Follow these three easy steps and you’ll master the everyday cat eye in no time!
