Fashion tips on how to style and refine your wardrobe.
We all need a staple wardrobe to fine-tune our fashion style. These are the pieces that I splurge on. Then, comes the basics or core pieces. Basic tops and bottoms that you can always use.
Many new mothers and those in the corporate industry get locked-in into a look and lose their fashion style. To help my clients, I observe what fits their lifestyle and profession. Then, incorporate what makes them look best while integrating trends and/or seasonal fashion pieces.
Being comfortable comes first. Everything else is secondary. If you don’t feel right in your outfit, don’t walk out your front door. It starts with the right look or style, your correct size and what fits best for you. Too small or too large does not suit your specific body. I try pieces on in several sizes until I find the one that suits my body and style. No brand has the same fit in all their pieces. Once you have the basics down, you’ll be set for years.
The Basics or Core
The Basics in black, white & gray. And don’t forget to add a pop up color. Everyone needs a strong wardrobe foundation with a selection of the basics that you can mix and match with just about everything. Tees, white button down shirt, black blouse, little black dress, sweater, skirts (mini, pencil, maxi and midi), jeans (skinny and flare), cut-off denim shorts, black pants, black maxi dress, denim jacket, military jacket, and converse sneakers, ballerina slippers, sandals, booties and nude heels. All these pieces can be mixed and matched into untold outfits
The Staples
The Staples are the ones I splurge on. These are my investment pieces that will be around for many years, and I can dress up or down with an add-on for the season or trend of the year. Shoes in your basic black, beige and red heels (pumps, platform and sandals) and flats (sandals, ballet slippers, and pointy). For me classic shoes and bags are those from designers such as: Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Gucci, YSL, Chanel, Dior, Goyard.
The Trends
The Trends are those pieces that are in the moment, including accessories (rings, bracelets, earrings, headbands, & hats). And usually come back after 10 or so years. These you should not splurge on unless you can’t control yourself and you’re aware that you will need to shelve them for a long while! We may call these main-street fashion or high-street fashion which are those pieces inspired by haute couture, but at affordable prices. Like your go-to stores such as H&M, Zara, Topshop, Asos and similar stores.
These are my wardrobe essentials must have pieces. What are your to-go outfits? Let us know below.
