Like most women, I have quite the time when it comes to packing for any kind of trip: big or small. Longer trips require a lot of clothing option but when you need to get away for a couple of days, packing light can be a struggle. These are the necessities everyone needs to carry:
1. Minimal makeup and hair tools.
This is a short trip and you don’t need to pack your entire steam trunk of beauty products. Try to keep your hair and makeup products down to your basic routine. Curling irons and glittery eyeshadows are not a daily need and simply take up room. If possible, try and keep travel-sized version of your makeup in a small cosmetic bag for these occasions!
P.S. Hair ties are a necessity for the ladies with long locks.
2. A pair of pajamas.
For a weekend trip, one pair of pajamas or a large t-shirt is plenty to tide you over. A lot of people think they need a different set of pajamas for each night but, because you don’t wear them outside of the house (hopefully), they don’t get too dirty and can be reworn.
3. Two or three solid outfits.
It’s nice to have options but when you’re trying to conserve space, planning out outfits ahead of time can be really beneficial. So instead of packing your entire closet and choosing outfits last-minute, choose your clothes before you leave and keep them together in your bag.
4. Underwear.
I don’t think this needs explaining.
5. One pair of shoes.
If possible, choose a pair of versatile and comfortable shoes that can be paired with all of your outfits. Shoes are bulky and two to three pairs will consume a lot of space that can be used for other necessities.
6. Phone charger.
As if I needed to mention this one. However, I have left my charger at home multiple times and didn’t realize it until I had already left. Always make sure you have one with you and never assume someone at your destination will have a spare. From personal experience, people almost never have a spare.
7. A jacket.
Wow, this is an important one. Don’t ever assume you won’t need a jacket whether you plan on being indoors or out. If your mother has taught you anything, it’s to always arrive prepared for anything and nothing is worse than freezing after you swore up and down you “don’t need a jacket- you’ll be fine!”
Keep in mind, traveling light is a learned skill but a valuable one if you can master it. It’s all about being able to recognize what is a need and what can be left at home. And just in case you simply can’t live without bring your entire collection of statement jewelry, remember you’re the one who has to carry your bag from place to place!
