I was invited to attend the Mission Pink event benefiting Susan G. Komen at the Outlets at Orange co-sponsored by Yelp Elite , to raise awareness for Breast Cancer. The numbers are staggering and most of us don’t know that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer in their lifetime. And that each year over 220,00 women in the US will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer & more than 40,000 will die because of it. And what’s worse is that those numbers are growing.
Mission Pink has several events during the month of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month. That may be why you may see a lot of people wearing pink on the streets, on t.v. and all runs and walks across the country. I haven’t experienced cancer in my family, but I think whether you have or not, any one can get involved in spreading the word and help raise funds for this cause. I did a run a few years ago, and I can not even begin to tell you the feeling of accomplishment after I finished and specially because it was all for a good cause (I still have the t-shirt to remember).
Going back to the event it included fashion shows from different retailers including Saks 5th OFF and Last Call Neiman Marcus, with models wearing some pink details on their looks.
The event not only brings awareness but also celebrates lifes on the “Wall of Strength” where for every $1 donation, survivors, families and friends wrote their message of strength.
They also had music, giveaways and food provided by different restaurants from the Outlet, and drinks provided by Stella Rosa Wines for sampling their different types of wines.
