On Oct. 11 Mike Vensel’s (@mikevensel) designs hit the runway at Ace Museum. We watched in awe as the collection was showcased in the Avant Garde museum where they mix art and fashion together.
On Mike Vensel’s website he is described as being known for his, “minimalist aesthetic and use of traditional natural materials. Each collection explores natural, cultural and architectural elements and creates a fusion between organic design evolution and futuristic ideas of a second skin.” The American designer is eco-friendly, “With use of organic cottons, bamboo, recycled leather and silk overstocks the brand has an ecological responsibility that goes beyond eco marketing and minimizes its footprint by producing in small quantities on demand using the most ethical practices.”
The Pittsburg born designer spent most of his childhood in the south and went on to study Architecture in Miami. It was there that he discovered a passion for photography and painting and began creating large-scale photographs and paintings. He later moved to Los Angeles where he studied Graphic and Fashion Design, which eventually led to the start of Kitten Magazine in 2004. As the publisher he took the photographs of fashion designers collections around the world, which he marks as one of his greatest influences. In 2007, Vensel created his own label and which is featured in New York, Los Angeles and Milan Fashion Weeks.
“With all of the waste in the modern world it’s a shame that the fashion industry dictates that we consume and destroy products season after season to suit its sales objectives,” the designer explains. “A much more efficient way to live in harmony with nature is to buy fashion that is timeless and requires the wearer to only change or replace items as they no longer suit the wearer or simply just wear out from use.”
Mike Vensel label is available in boutiques in Los Angeles, New York, London and online.
