“You know how to whistle, don’t you, Steve? You just put your lips together … and blow.”
– Lauren Bacall: To Have and Have Not (1944)

#LaurenBacall, whose death at age 89 was revealed this Tuesday August 12th 2014, stopped me in my tracks….
Betty Joan Perske, Famously known as “Lauren Bacall”was born in Bronx, New York, was raised by her Jewish immigrant mother and became a model when she was only a teenager. As a chance of luck she was spotted by director Howard Hawks wife Nancy and from that moment on everything changed.

Known for her #beauty, deep and alluring voice and #elegance Lauren Bacall was one of the most glamorous women of all time. The former model and movie star had the looks women would kill for and men would drop to their knees for, but she always wanted to be seen as more than that; a force to be reckoned with. She once said:

“Here is a test to find out whether your mission in life is complete. If you’re alive, it isn’t.”

I remember the first film I saw of Lauren Bacall which was 1944 hit “To Have and Have Not” when I was 8 years old. I remember thinking from the moment she came on with Humphrey Bogart, I knew that they would be one of my favorite couples of all time; she had something that captured my heart. This film catapulted her into becoming one of the leading ladies of Hollywood, it made her a star. Although she was also known as being #Humphrey Bogart’s go to girl, she didn’t want that to over shadow what she wanted to accomplish as being an #actress.

She made seventy-two films throughout her career and she never once took any of it for granted she was always cool and level-headed. This is why I and so many others look up to her and even in death we will forever remember her as a legend.
