The transition period between summer and fall can be the toughest time to dress for. You know those mornings when it’s freezing outside but by the time you head out for lunch you’re sweating through your sweater. Even though the weather seems to be having an identity crisis, you don’t have to have a crisis when picking out your outfit in the morning. Here’s a few ways to be prepared for the awkward late September/early October days..

Cardigans are your friend!

I cannot stress enough how vital cardigans are to any fall wardrobe. A cardigan is the perfect removable layer that is lightweight but can keep you warm in the chilly mornings. Pairing a printed or detailed cardigan is great for adding style to an otherwise average outfit.

Leggings and tights are essential.

Whoever designed leggings deserves an award. Leggings are fantastic for fall because they provide solid coverage for the legs but aren’t too heavy and they go with almost any fall top or dress. Also they are BEYOND comfortable. Wearing leggings rather than jeans with a tunic or oversized sweater will help control the heat. Tights are also perfect under dresses and skirts and definitely won’t you to pass out from heat exhaustion.

Always carry a jacket!

Make sure you have a chic jacket on hand at all times. A trench coat or pea coat is a stylish addition to any fall ensemble that will keep you warm. Many warm jackets are far too casual for more formal settings so having a jacket that compliments your going out or work outfit is key.
