Tips and Tricks for What to Wear to an Interview

Preparing for an interview can be stressful, especially when you have no idea what to wear. Luckily we have a few tricks up our sleeve so you can not only kill your interview, but look completely fabulous while doing it!

SKIRTS. A pencil skirt s perfect for an interview, it is both in fashion and looks professional in the office. Rocking a shorter, fuller skirt makes many women feel more feminine, but if you’re going for this vibe remember to wear some tights with the look to keep it from being too revealing. The perfect interview skirts can be found at Nordstrom.

DRESSES. Dresses are easy to wear to an interview because it is one piece verses two and requires less effort, but looks classic. Go for a straight dress that is elegant and doesn’t have too much going on in terms of colors or patterns. Anything too crazy will be a distraction from your interview. PANTS. Pants are very straight forward- it’s dress pants. Never wear jeans or shorts to an interview! Pants can be difficult because they tend to fit awkwardly and need to be fitted. So take the time and visit a tailor, have them hemmed and taken in where appropriate. Farfetch offers a variety of pants perfect for the office.

BLOUSES. When choosing a blouse for your interview there are two key rules to follow; make sure the top is not see through or too low cut. You don’t have to stick to a plain button-down white blouse, as long as the rest of your look is toned down, feel free to have a little more fun with your blouse! Forever 21 and Long Tall Sally features plenty of options of blouses for the office.

Tips & Tricks

1. Minimal perfume: you never know who may be allergic!

2. Flats or kitten heels: save those sky-high stilettos for the club ladies unless you’re interviewing for a fashion job (and don’t even think about wearing flip flops or sneakers!)

3. Minimal jewelry: too much bling will be too distracting to your interviewer.

4. Polished hair: both up and down-do’s are fine, just don’t try the “bead-head” look for an interview.

5. Anything that can be seen as “club wear” needs to be left at home.
